Course summary

This course is designed for those who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of Dementia. This course also looks at the social stigma related to Dementia. The learner will be able to identify how to respond to some of the behaviours which can be portrayed as challenging within people with Dementia. This course also looks at how a person centred approach to everyday care of the service user with Dementia can be applied.

  • Understand what Dementia is
  • Identify Stages of Dementia
  • Identify common themes:- Behaviour, communication, confusion, moods etc.
  • Understand and Respond to Behaviour learners might find Challenging
  • Identify daily living issues:- dressing, feeding and personal care
  • Understand late stages of dementia:- mobility, skin care, eating/nutrition and safety issues
  • Improve person centred planning and apply a Person-Centred Approach to Everyday Care Activities
