Course summary

This course will aid staff awareness of the causes of challenging behaviour, why behaviour challenges and how to avoid confrontation. Also exploring their own personal feelings and coping with challenging behaviour. We will also highlight practical ways of dealing with individuals who are emotionally aroused and debriefing.

Learners will be able to:

  • Identify challenging behaviour and factors that influence challenging behaviour
  • Promote non-challenging behaviours
  • Identify the five stages of emotional arousal
  • Manage challenging behaviour (non-physical intervention)
  • Report and record incidents
  • Use appropriate de-briefing skills
